taiwan chinatownologyBirthday of Goddess of Birth and Childcare 注生娘娘圣诞

taiwan chinatownology20th day of the 3rd lunar month is the birthday of the Goddess of Birth and Childcare or Zhu Sheng Niang Niang.

In Taipei’s Baoan Temple, 保安宫, the goddess’s birthday overlaps with the temple’s two month long Asia Pacific Baosheng Cultural Festival celebrating the birthday of God of Medicine, Baosheng Dai Di, 保生大帝.

Despite various activities for the Baosheng Cultural Festival, preparations were also being made to commemorate the Goddess’s birthday. In fact, it is part of the Baosheng Cultural Festival.

A tent was specially set up at the hall of the Goddess and devotees filled the table with flowers, longevity peaches, and all sorts of food.

After placing the offerings, they went to the altar to pray to her. Devotees showed their appreciation to the Goddess for her blessings especially for their children.

In the afternoon, a group of devotees entered the inner sanctum to chat while devotees pray outside.

When devotees visit Baoan Temple to pay respects to the Goddess, they can also take part in the Baosheng Cultural Festival’s various activities.

On the same day, was the start of the Herbal Material Exhibition showcasing a wide range of Chinese medicinal herbs. That afternoon and evening, there were puppet shows just across the street from the temple where a stage had been prepared.

So throughout the day, devotees arrived at Baoan Temple, made their way to the Goddess’s hall, paid respect to her. Devotees showed their appreciation to the Gooddess for her blessing and looked forward to another year of blessings.
