Hawthorn English Language Centre, Singapore commissioned Chinatownology to design a Chinatown tour for their international students.
The tour was designed for International Students of Hawthorn English Language Centre to experience Singapore Chinatown and to create opportunities for interaction and expression in English. See what they have to say about the tour.
The customized tour was led by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) licensed tour guide Ms. Susan Yong. Susan is a very experience tour guide with strong background in programs for young adults.
There were very interesting 2 way communication as the students asked question or tried to answer Susan's questions or shared their opinions.
There were various opportunities for the students to articulated their observations as they explored the sights and landmarks of Chinatown, as they sampled and tried traditional foodstuff such as bakkwa in specialty shop along the tour route.
Landmarks visited during the tour include Chinatown Heritage Centre, Lee Chun Yuan 梨春 园, Sri Mariamman temple, traditional foodstuff shop, traditional Chinese medicine shop and a funeral effigy shop.
The tour gave international students a sense of the multi racial and multi cultural fabric in Chinatown and how traditional and modern forces converge to shape the landscape.
The final stop was lunch at a vegetarian restaurant for students to experienced vegetarian food culture.
