Landmarks in Chinatown

 

Humans shape the physical landscape they live in. The material culture that is created tells us a lot about the people who built them, their dreams and their aspirations. Landmarks served as a depository of history and social memories.

One of the oldest Chinese temples in Singapore and believed to have existed before the arrival of Raffles. Today, its management is appealing to the government to gazette the temple as a national monument to save it from possible eviction from the site it has occupied since its founding in 1844.
